URL shortener

A URL shortener where every link has an owner and a dashboard.

Paste a long URL, get a short one, and stay in control afterwards: change the destination, organise links with tags and see who clicked.

How it works

From a long URL to a tracked link in three steps.

  1. Paste your link

Drop in any long URL, pick a short domain and add a title, tags and UTM parameters right in the create form.

  2. Share the short link

A short code is generated for you. Use the link in messages, emails, posts, bios or print.

  3. Track and manage

Watch clicks come in, change the destination if it moves, or archive the link when you're done with it.

What you get

A focused toolkit for every link.

Edit the destination

Fix a typo or point a link at a new page without breaking the short link people already have.

Click analytics

Clicks over the last 30 days with breakdowns by country, city, referrer, browser, system and device.

Tags and filters

Group links by campaign or client, then filter your library by tag, status or date.

UTM parameters built in

Add source, medium and campaign while creating the link, and see them again when you open it.

A QR code for every link

Style the colours, dots and centre logo, then download a print-ready PNG or SVG.

Archive, don't delete

Hide a link from your active list and keep its statistics.

Why accounts

Links with an owner are links you can trust.

shorturl.la started as an open shortener where anyone could paste a link without signing in. It didn't take long for spammers to arrive, so we rebuilt it around accounts: every link now belongs to someone who can name it, edit it and see how it performs.

For you that means a library you can manage rather than a pile of anonymous links. For everyone else it means abuse can be dealt with at the source. Sign-in uses a one-time link sent to your email, so there is no password to manage.

Shorten your first link in under a minute.

FAQ

Common questions

Is the URL shortener free? +

Yes. The free plan covers link creation, QR codes and click analytics, with no credit card. See the pricing page for the monthly link limit.

Do I need an account to shorten a link? +

Yes. Links are created from your dashboard so that each one has an owner you can manage. The free tools on the site, such as the QR generator and UTM builder, work without an account.

Can I change where a short link goes after sharing it? +

Yes. Edit the destination, title, tags and UTM parameters at any time. The short link stays the same.

Do links expire? +

No. Links stay active until you archive them. An archived link stops redirecting and keeps its statistics.

Which short domains can I use? +

Links can be created on shorturl.la or shl.la. Using your own domain is part of the Growing plan, which isn't self-serve yet.
